Last year, someone said to me, “You should do a Generosity Plan with Dynamis.” “Should” is a strong word. Part of me was skeptical. Perhaps, like some of you, my mind associated Generosity Plan with a financial analysis for giving. But I also thought, “What do I have to lose?” So, I said, okay.
To my delight, I found the process to be reflective and not too tough. Completing a Generosity Plan helped me hone and refine areas of my life, building on good practices and taking them to the next level. The results were fantastic and energizing, pointing to action.
For example, I decided to tithe decades ago. It was really hard financially at that time, and it was necessary to trust God to make it work out. The Lord did open the floodgates of Heaven, blessing me as promised in Malachi 3:10, which says:
“Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.”
My Generosity Plan encouraged me to go beyond my tithing as prompted by God’s Spirit. I was stretched and blessed! And my retirement savings are still in good shape! This increased giving didn’t happen in a linear fashion but rather involved overlapping events.
One of my favorite acts of generosity in the last year was to give secretly. One time, I simply mailed a $100 bill to a family in need, including a note that the Lord had prompted me to do this. I even posted it from another ZIP Code. It was received and well used; I was most pleased to remain anonymous.
In the Bible, James writes about demonstrating genuine faith in action by stating, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves” (James 1:22). Christians are encouraged to put their faith into practice, not just profess it intellectually. Radically saved at age 30, the Spirit led me to now use that reality as a springboard to action. At a local ministry center, I gave my testimony and was encouraged to paint in the Spirit, sometimes giving away those paintings.
Subsequently, I was prompted to give my testimony in a few Bible study groups. Mine is a testimony that includes Jesus rescuing me out of a downward cycle of death, drugs and destruction. There were times when it was hard to publicly acknowledge those sins again, but it was overwhelmingly wonderful to confess the powerful work of Jesus in my life!
Another growth area this past year has been bringing my faith into all aspects of life, including political causes. As a result, I have increased my participation as a citizen from a generosity perspective. I gave small donations to some political organizations and other causes. I prayed hard for our country and the candidates. I volunteered for election integrity and served at a phone bank.
Honing and refining are about sharpening the saw. Would the things I mentioned here have happened if I hadn’t completed a Generosity Plan? Absolutely not! It was one small change in the trajectory of my life; it made all the difference! Thanks be to God, the Giver of all good things!
Jesus said, “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Lk 6:38). I have found this to be true.
Generosity Plan? You should do it!

Susan Gorski is a happily retired grandma of 6, Bible study group leader and watercolorist. Her story is incomplete without mentioning the biggest miracle of her life when the Lord decisively broke in and rescued her from the bonds of heroin addiction, a variety of street drugs and a life of immorality. Her life-changing moment happened in 1984 when she was in a pit of despair, crying on the floor of her one-bedroom apartment, and the Holy Spirit opened her ears to hear herself calling out to God, who stirred in her the understanding that God was indeed who she needed in her life. Sobbing, she turned to the Lord in repentance and, by his grace, was able to transform her life around. Since then, Susan has been walking with the Lord, one step at a time, to unabashedly follow him.
